The top candidate of the KPÖ Plus, Kay-Michael Dankl, was of course very happy, but also very surprised. The election result is a strong signal that more people want a different, fair policy, and a warning signal for established parties to take everyday problems seriously again. However, he ruled out the Communists’ participation in the government.
Dankl wants to keep an eye on the state government with the KPÖ in the future state parliament. Elections are not a football game, Dankl sees the result of the KPÖ mainly as an order given by voters. The KPÖ accept the result with humility and the knowledge that it is a great challenge. “It’s nice that so many people have pinned their hopes on us.”
‘Established parties have disappointed many people’
The KPÖ Plus now has more possibilities to raise and introduce cases in the state parliament. “In five years we will be able to assess what we have achieved. Today is a start for us.”
It’s about an affordable life for everyone, about a good education system, about real people and real problems, especially given rising housing costs and when children have to grow up in poverty. “The established parties have disappointed many people. Our goal was to receive many disappointed people again.”
ÖVP Governor Wilfried Haslauer congratulated all parties that were able to win votes. The task now is to form a viable government.
Haslauer rules out alliance with SPÖ and KPÖ
He excludes a black-red-red coalition, the social model of the Communist Party is “very far” from that of the People’s Party. KPÖ Plus top candidate Kay-Michael Dankl has already ruled out going into government, and his wish will be granted.
KPÖ even got more than 5 percent in Lungau
Even in the smallest district of Salzburg, the Lungau, the KPÖ Plus received 5.1 percent of the vote, according to the provisional result. This is surprising given that voting in this federal state is traditionally very civil. In absolute numbers, of course, that doesn’t matter: 608 of the 12,001 valid votes in this district went to the KPÖ Plus.
