A new petition demands that the planned concerts of the band Rammstein in Vienna be cancelled. Alleged perpetrators should not be offered a stage, it is said. On Friday, June 9 (3:28 PM), 4,056 people signed.
The petition is addressed to concert organizers Arcadia Live and the operators of the Ernst Happel Stadium, where Rammstein will perform on July 26 and 27. “One thing is clear: as long as the allegations (abuse, remark) are not cleared up, the band’s concerts are not a safe place for visitors (…)”, it says. They should therefore be cancelled.
The demand is supported by, among others, the Greens. “After these serious allegations became known, the organizers must realize that a concert by this band is not a safe place for women (…)”, said women’s spokeswoman Viktoria Spielmann in a broadcast. Concerts should generally be safe for women and sexual assault should be made impossible. Safe places and trained teams are needed on site where visitors can go if necessary.
Frontman is said to have been sexually assaulted
As reported, several women had accused Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann of sexual assault in recent days. They described, partly anonymously, that young women were selected during concerts and asked if they wanted to come to the aftershow party. Sexual acts would have taken place. Some were even drugged to perform sexual acts on them.
Lindemann (see video above) vehemently rejected this on Thursday. “These allegations are all untrue,” his lawyers said, announcing legal action against the allegations. A Rammstein statement on Saturday said the allegations had hit the band hard and would be taken seriously. “We condemn any form of abuse,” it said.
Security concepts for the concerts at the end of July are now planned in Vienna. ÖVP women’s minister Susanne Raab had called for this and recently spoke out via Twitter (see above). “I think the debate in Germany about ways to better protect women at concerts is justified (…)”, she wrote.
