The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegichas insisted that his coalition is committed to exhaust the legislator of the coalition government between PSOE and United We Can, as there are “sufficient reasons for it, while the alternative is worse”, although he has warned that Sanchez’s executive has “its last chance” before it.
According to Otegi, one cannot “frivolize” the possibility of the far right “consolidating itself in the Spanish state” because it “is a serious problem for the Basque workers”, but “the government not you can pretend that it is the only reason for keep it up permanently.
In an interview with Radio Euskadi’s “Boulevard” program, the nationalist leader said that “the government must decide whether to consolidate the space for democratization, to accept social and economic demands that affect the privileges of the economic and oligarchic castes, and whether to it wants to offer a democratic solution to the national problems it has in the state (…) It’s the last chance to prove it. If this government is not able to do that, the Basques, the Catalans, the popular sectors of the state will have to make other kinds of decisions.”
About him political espionage, Otegi has assured that “an operation is underway to save the regime and try to maintain it” and that “everything is allowed to confront the independence movement”, as the “state apparatus knows total impunity”. In his words, “until that’s clarified, they won’t stop: they’ll keep spying on us,” he warned.
In a different order, and questioned about the bill that the Basque government will approve today on the income guarantee system (RGIE) and any support from his formation, Otegi does not rule out an agreement, although he has indicated that it will depend on the content. He once again defended the importance of state treaties in Euskadi. “We Basques can also conclude state treaties, we also need them. Big waves are coming, big challenges. The question is: ‘How are we Basques going to meet the challenges of the future without sovereignty?'” he demanded.
