The penalty also imposes a fine of 24,000 euros. This is the second conviction for failing to remove a banner from the Generalitat.
Euskaraz irakurri: 15 hilabeteko inhabilitazioa ezarri gave Justiziak Torrari disobedient ziagatik egindako bigarren epaiketan
The Criminal Court 6 of Barcelona has sentenced the former president of the Generalitat Quim Torra to: 15 months disqualification in the second, for disobedience in failing to remove a yellow-ribbon banner from the Generalitat when he was president. The penalty also imposes a € 24,000 fine
The statement comes less than two weeks after the TSJC deemed Torra’s first disqualification complete, also for disobedience. The former president was sentenced to one and a half years of disqualification for maintaining a banner ahead of the April 28, 2019 general election.
This time he was convicted of the same crime: in this case for not removing the banner during the election periodl before the elections on November 10 of the same year.
The judge recalled that Torra had to remove the banner, a precautionary measure the TSJC had agreed to as a result of a appeal lodged by the entity Impulso Ciudadano and that it invoked a violation of the obligation of objectivity.
Before that requirement, the office of the President of Torra, upon learning of the precautionary measure taken by the TSJC, had issued a statement “expressing its willingness to appeal and not remove the banner”.
In court, that statement showed Torra’s “open refusal” to comply with the banner removal order. The judge notes that Torra, once required, did not immediately meet with the order of the court, so the court had to order the Mossos d’Esquadra to remove the banner after several requests.
