The three councilors distanced themselves from the jeltzale formation after the decision not to nominate a mayoral candidate to favor a PP government. The new Lasa Bai platform plays with the name of the two towns that make up the municipality, Labastida and Salinillas de Buradón.
The three former councilors of the PNV in Labastida (Álava) who they distanced themselves from the jeltzale formation after the decision not to nominate a candidate for mayor to a PP government have created a new local party called lasa bay.
On May 28, the PP won the local elections in Labastida and obtained 4 mayors, failing to obtain the absolute majority needed to guarantee itself the mayoralty, as the PNV obtained 3 and EH Bildu 2.
The coalition was willing to support the PNV to prevent the people’s representatives from ruling – as they did 4 years ago – but the PNV board decided not to nominate a candidate, a decision that led to the resignation of Jeltzale’s head of the list in the city, Edu Barinaga.
On June 17, during the plenary meeting of the city council, the three council members of the PNV Aintzane Prieto, Alain Quintana and Jose Manuel Cano– They complied with the party’s decision, but announced that they were “completely and absolutely” distancing themselves from the formation.
They then denounced that Labastida had “become a bargaining chip for municipalities and councils of greater political importance” and that the attitude of the PNV leadership caused them “impotence and disgust”.
Barely three weeks later, the three councilors have promoted the creation of a new local political party, Lasa Bai, playing on the name of the two towns that make up the municipality, Labastida and Salinillas de Buradón, explains Alain Quintana.
They have referenced other community platforms in the area that have proven to be a “model of success” as they have governed different legislatures in their respective municipalities, such as Zieko Bai in Elciego and Lapuebla advance in the city of this name.
The idea, Quintana continued, is to get the “big politics” out of the city and focus on issues that affect the residents, regardless of their ideological stances.
In addition to registering as a party with the civil-law notary, the initiators of this new platform have already established themselves as a municipal group in the municipal council under this name.
