With an explosive tweet, NEOS veteran Sepp Schellhorn fueled the rumors of a possible return to politics. However, the 56-year-old denies a comeback in the “Krone”: “That is not in dispute.” But: “As an entrepreneur and taxpayer, I want vision and prudent fiscal and economic policy.”
He therefore wants to “stand up as a private person and play ‘Serve & Volley’ with the non-existent economic policy,” said the former member of the National Council: “To my chagrin, it is a game, set and match in three sets for me. Because the opponent is too lame and slow and can’t get anything done,” explains the restaurateur in the direction of politics. On his cryptic tweet, he said, “Yesterday was an expression of my anger.”
supporters of politicians
Schellhorn had recently appeared more as a supporter of politicians. In the presidential election campaign, he officially acted as a supporter of Alexander Van der Bellen. With Andreas Babler, the entrepreneur organized a show cooking with children in Traiskirchen in March 2023 with the theme “Rethinking children’s food”.
In addition, in the run-up to the Salzburg elections in April, rumors circulated that Schellhorn supported the incumbent governor, Wilfried Haslauer. This was later personally denied by Schellhorn. “I am not on any list of supporters and I have not signed anything.”
Political resignation in the summer of 2021
Schellhorn was a NEOS delegate to the National Council from 2014 to 2021. He was also State President of NEOS in Salzburg and Deputy National President. On June 24, 2021, he announced his retirement from politics. Since then he has devoted himself exclusively to his catering business. NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger had nevertheless hinted at Schellhorn’s possible return to politics in March.
