The management of the court and authority has not been completed for months. Neither the Greens nor the ÖVP want to move.
It’s almost a play. The ÖVP and the Greens have been blocking the replacement of two key management positions for months. The two have nothing to do with each other formally, but are closely intertwined. It involves the administration of the Federal Competition Authority and the Federal Administrative Court.
The ÖVP insists on their candidate at the competition authority and in return blocks the new appointment at the court. The Greens oppose Michael Sachs as head of the competition authority. He narrowly won against the current vice president and interim director on the review committee.
Greens have problems with the Commission
The Greens believe that he does not meet the requirements and that the appointment by the committee has been messy. This staff is attached to the administration of the Federal Administrative Court. This is temporarily occupied by Sachs. According to the Commission’s proposal, Sabine Matejka, president of the Association of Judges, should be the new president.
But that is blocked by the ÖVP. And the next personnel decision is pending: the head of the instruction board and the attorney general, Franz Plöchl, is about to retire.
