“Understand this world” – Kneissl prefers Russian wastelands to the Maldives

Date:

Former foreign minister Karin Kneissl apparently enjoys her time in the Russian provinces. She would even prefer rural Russia to beaches in the Maldives or Seychelles, the 58-year-old told Russia’s TASS news agency.

Kneissl has been on holiday in Russia’s Ryazan region for several weeks after attending the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in June.

She describes her time in the village of Petrushevo as follows: “I like life here. i understand this world i understood it when i was a young girl. Grandmothers, apples, summer, swimming in the river. It’s a good life I don’t need the Maldives or the Seychelles. It’s better here,” she said in Russian when asked about her life deep in the Russian countryside, according to TASS.

Kneissl: “I don’t live in Petroshovo”
Kneissl clarified that the house she lives in in Petroshovo is not her permanent residence. “I don’t live in Petroshovo. I just rented a cottage there, a rustic hut. Now the whole world knows where my house is,” the former top diplomat added.

Kneissl was Austria’s foreign minister from 2017 until the 2019 Ibiza scandal, nominated by the FPÖ. Most recently, she was noticed with pro-Russian statements. Critics see them completely swallowed up by Russian propaganda. Not only did she invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to her wedding in 2018, she also met him in person several times.
