Vice About Card Affair – “Surely I Won’t Apologize For It!”

Date:

The deputy mayor of the ÖVP of Innsbruck, Johannes Anzengruber, cannot see any fault in the allocation of several thousand leisure tickets: he is only an intermediary, he explained. City boss Georg Willi (Greens) was not involved in the events, he now wants them checked. The city ÖVP met for a crisis meeting on this issue.

“Compliance training – you don’t need it! We already know how it works!” That’s probably what Innsbruck’s city council thought at its most recent meeting when the majority rejected a Neos proposal. Initiator GR Julia Seidl therefore thought she had been hit hard when she heard about Anzengruber’s card distribution campaign. “It’s a joke,” says Seidl: “The application would include anti-corruption and compliance training for city council members. Looks like we really need this!”

Willi has the legal department check
Apparently BM Georg Willi sees it that way too. He has now launched an investigation into the process by the city’s legal department regarding compliance rules. In any case, Willi emphasized that he himself was not informed about the case in advance.

According to him, the cleanest solution would have been for Anzengruber to take the matter to the city senate. The possible distribution among other members of the government could also have been decided or discussed.

City senate apparently undesirable
But the black second deputy mayor still wants nothing to do with it. “I will continue to fulfill my role as a mediator and do everything I can to help people in need. This means that whatever is offered to me as a donation, I pass on to those in need. And I’m certainly not going to apologize for that. This is a non-negotiable, practical and unbureaucratic service to fellow human beings.”

Anzengruber is also responsible for Innsbruck’s social market: “I am pleased that we were able to supply vegetables and food from farmers and grocers in the region for the social market, just like today.” The “Krone” asked why he was on the committee. Anzengruber said he couldn’t drag every sack of potatoes to the senate of the city so that the division could be discussed there.

FPÖ: Could get him into big trouble
“Unfortunately, he doesn’t understand that this can get him into big trouble,” says FP Vice-BM Markus Lassenberger. “He does not understand that the acceptance of gifts, both political and private, must be carried out by municipal committees or may depend on party funding.” The mediator role to which Anzengruber retreats is not credible, at least not in the case of the 1,100 cards to the fire brigade: Because the accompanying letter stated: “i give you…”, Signature: Deputy BM Anzengruber.

A crisis meeting at the city ÖVP was scheduled for Thursday evening. No further details are known yet.
