Billion fiasco – SPÖ is on the brink of collapse overnight

Date:

What a difference a day makes! 24 hours from Sunday to Monday, and the SPÖ, as the polling emperor, came close to the abyss. Tomorrow she may already be one step further. In which direction is the question. An analysis by Peter Filzmaier.

As a result of scandals and weaknesses in the government, Pamela Rendi-Wagner, Federal Party leader of the SPÖ, was lucky and could have become the next chancellor almost automatically. She watched, as it were, from the front row, footless, as the ÖVP and the Greens stumbled from one difficulty to another during the crisis.

Now Rendi-Wagner has to explain with difficulty why the energy company of the red Vienna has fallen flat on its head with its stock exchange transactions.

The main story is lost
That destroys their main story: that everything would be better in crisis management for the consequences of the Russian war of aggression and inflation if the SPÖ were to rule. However, the financial and energy supply problem in Vienna proves that public participation in companies under the responsibility of the SPÖ is by no means always a patent solution.

Irresponsible juggling with tax money
Stupid of the SPÖ that all their federal politicians always praised Vienna as a positive example for everything from corona policy to social benefits and quality of life. In the energy case, however, there has been irresponsible juggling with taxpayers’ money because, despite the scarcity, electricity was sold in bulk(!) Or huge amounts of taxpayers’ money are finally gone, and you get that back from the Viennese with price increases.

The mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, probably kept the case a secret from Pamela Rendi-Wagner, as well as from the city council and the public. To her misfortune, she has only been undisputed halfway through the game since the mighty Ludwig gave the thumbs up. If that is now worth less or nothing, Rendi-Wagner wobbles again.

Mudfight could only use the FPÖ
Who is the winner? Of course, the ÖVP will try to use the stock market debacle to stop its own slump in the polls. However, she makes a mistake. Whenever ÖVP and SPÖ intrigued each other or even got into mud fights, they both ended up covered in mud. It almost always benefited the FPÖ, which gathered protest votes.
