The chairman of the Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ), Harald Mahrer, called on Tuesday for an end to “mask torture for workers in the food trade and other areas of daily necessities”. According to the WKÖ boss, the mask obligation for the food trade has become disproportionate compared to other areas.
“In addition, it is high time to talk broadly and transparently about the necessary preparations for the autumn to prevent new Covid restrictions. Companies and workers are urgently waiting for concrete proposals for measures from the Ministry of Health,” Mahrer told the “Krone”.
Mahrer’s demand came three days after Chancellor Karl Nehammer’s virus-speaker, who drew a line under the corona pandemic on Saturday at the ÖVP’s federal party conference in Graz. In the presence of his confidants and live streaming, the head of government greeted the delegates euphorically with the words “So many viruses. But now we don’t care anymore” and caused a head shake.
After a total of 4.2 million Covid infected and 21,000 deaths in Austria, Nehammer had switched to ignore mode when it came to Corona on Saturday. And with that, the warnings of the experts, who in April – in contrast to the past two years – called for a plan for the turquoise-green government next fall, were ignored.
