Challenging times the ÖVP is in. The demands placed on the party by ÖVP Secretary General Laura Sachslehner are high, and people do not want to be intimidated by the current poor poll numbers: “Unpopular decisions” were made with the corona measures, Sachslehner said in the krone.tv talk “Wanted” with Jana Pasching. “But the task for the coming weeks and months is clear: it is about overcoming the current crises.”
Karl Nehammer caused turmoil on the domestic stock markets at the beginning of May. He wants to legally skim profits from energy companies that are disproportionately profiting from the crisis. An atypical intervention for the ÖVP, which normally allows the market to take its course. Will the VP become the new SPÖ? Sachslehner: “We are dealing with price increases in all kinds of areas.”
Two first anti-inflation packages totaling four billion euros have already been presented. The aim is to relieve people of the burden and ensure that people have more money to live on at the end of the day.
Feminist? “I don’t believe in these attributions”
Asked if she would describe herself as a feminist, Sachslehner says: “I don’t believe in those attributions. For decades people have fought against the categorization of women. Now we’re starting again with such ideological terms. But hey, when it comes to stand up for women’s rights and full equality, then of course.”
