The dream of a small house in your own garden is denied to most Viennese people. Politicians from the Vienna SPÖ are remarkably lucky when it comes to property. The allotment affair is becoming increasingly widespread. Here is the next dubious deal that raises many questions: Franz Prokop from Ottakring bought a beautiful property in a prime location two weeks before sales stopped and at a discounted price of 72,000 euros.
Now another high-ranking comrade is providing more than just a sideways glance: Franz Prokop, the district leader of Ottakring, can also call himself the owner of an allotment garden. In 2016, he rented the 247 square meter building in the Rosental subdivision in Penzing from an acquaintance. In a fantastic location. Calm. Naturally. With a beautiful view over Vienna. The only thing missing here is a swimming pond.
In July 2019, Prokop expressed his interest in purchasing the beautiful allotment garden to the property management of the city of Vienna. Then nothing happens for a long time. But more than a year and a half later, things are moving very quickly. The purchase was finally approved on January 15, 2021 (the purchase contract is available for the “Krone”). Just in time.
Two weeks later, on February 1, 2021, the sale of allotments owned by the city of Vienna was permanently stopped. District leader Prokop, like several other SPÖ politicians, has shown an extremely lucky hand. He only paid a paltry 72,000 euros for the municipal real estate. A unique price for this location. Why do you ask that? Thanks to a whopping 45 percent discount!
According to MA 69, all buyers should have received a certain percentage of this. However, 45 percent was the maximum. How many benefited – and whether it wasn’t ultimately just one of them – remains secret for ‘data protection reasons’. “We demand full transparency and clarification,” said FPÖ Vienna boss Dominik Nepp.
District head Prokop himself speaks of a compilation of his purchase that can be traced at any time. The SPÖ Vienna refers to the ongoing discussions aimed at providing clarification. However, Prokop is currently not part of it.
