The spokesperson for Elkarrekin Podemos-IU in the Basque Parliament, Miren Gorrotxategi, has denounced that the education law “privatizes” because it “contradicts public schools.” Furthermore, he stated that “it perpetuates the serious problem we have: segregation.”
During an appearance in the Vitoria-Gasteiz Chamber, Gorrotxategi reiterated that she is a change of the whole to the bill with the aim of returning the rule to the government and reformulating it. He has emphasized that it is a ‘bad text’ because it does not provide a ‘correct diagnosis’. “If a correct diagnosis is not made, it will be difficult to provide an adequate response to the challenges of our education system,” he criticized. “The law does not provide an adequate response to the challenges we face,” he stressed.
On the other hand, the coalition spokesperson has claimed that he gives the public school “a real central place” as it is “the instrument to guarantee equality”. In this sense, he has criticized the fact that the bill “mixes” public and private education, because they “receive the same treatment.” But according to Gorrotxategi, “what is private is not public and never will be.”
He added that the project “instead of protecting public schools, the law protects universal agreement.” Moreover, “it does not respect the April 2022 education pact, neither the letter nor the spirit. You only have to compare the text of the pact and the bill, they are contradictory.” Gorrotxategi therefore believes that “a great opportunity” has been lost.
