A day before the national holiday, the FPÖ convened a special meeting of the National Council on Wednesday. According to the “urgent request,” your primary concern is maintaining neutrality. FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl sharply attacked the turquoise-green federal government in his attacking speech: “They are destroying and damaging neutrality and squandering the precious legacy of great statesmen of the past.” State Secretary Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP) refuted his statements. For the coalition, neutrality is ‘irrefutable’.
A few hours before the special meeting, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) found clear words for the FPÖ leader. “Kickl presumes to act as a traitor to neutrality,” she said in an exclusive krone.tv interview with Conny Winiwarter. They are currently busy “making amends” for all the “failures of the past” under then Interior Minister Kickl.
Tanner on krone.tv: “Happy to help get off his high horse”
“The top government is on the run”
However, Kickl did not address this in his twenty-minute speech. Instead, he criticized the absence of the chancellor and vice-chancellor. “The government leaders are on the run. “She is on the run from parliament, from the Freedom Party, from her own people, from confronting her own capital failure and from looking in her own mirror,” Kickl said. There was also a gaping void in the Federal President’s box, the blue club boss said in the direction of Head of State Alexander Van der Bellen, whom he had invited to the meeting in an open letter.
Kickl criticizes Nehammer’s “gas pilgrimage” to Qatar with Gewessler
Kickl also referred to Nehammer’s current state trip to Israel. In Tel Aviv, the chancellor had the opportunity to explain why he recently went on a real “gas pilgrimage” with Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) to Qatar. It is Qatar that finances the Hamas terrorists. And it was precisely these terrorists who attacked Israel and slaughtered and kidnapped innocent civilians. “Yesterday in Qatar, today in Israel,” Kickl told the chancellor.
‘Kogler is already practicing for the time after the next elections’
Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) also got his fat. “The vice-chancellor is also a refugee. But I see it as positive. He is already training for the time after the next elections.” After this, there will be no more Werner Kogler in parliament – neither on the government bench nor in the ranks of parliamentarians. For Austria, according to Kickl, this would be a ‘liberation strike’.
Austria as “bringer of peace to the whole world”
Kickl’s vision is that Austria will once again become a factor in international security policy, in its function as a neutral state – “little Austria as a bringer of peace to the whole world”. Once again, the FPÖ leader condemned the government’s support for Ukraine, which had pushed Austria into an economic war “with the US in power”. This had dramatic consequences for the economy and households.
Kickl believes that an active neutrality policy would be nothing more than a good security policy for one’s own country and a good peace policy for the world. But the government prefers to destroy neutrality: “They are wasting a valuable legacy of great statesmen of the past.”
Kickl: “The security apparatus has capitulated”
In addition to various criticisms of the EU and the UN, Kickl also criticized the government’s immigration policy, which he linked to criminal acts in Austria after the Hamas attack on Israel. There are “ticking time bombs” in the country and all in the heart of the federal capital. The security apparatus catapulted.
Plakolm defends neutrality
Plakolm’s Austria looked very different: “Austria remains a peaceful, safe, prosperous country,” said the State Secretary. At the same time, she described in detail the financial contributions to the security services made by the government – ”to remain a defensible democracy.” Plakolm promoted the ‘asylum brake’ that had previously been imposed for her own party.
In any case, neutrality is not an option for them: “Neutrality is our greatest asset. Austria was neutral, is neutral and will remain neutral.”
But that only means that you are militarily neutral. Because you are always on the side of those under attack: “Being neutral doesn’t mean we don’t have an opinion on global political events.”
