Iñigo Urkullu hopes that the new candidate proposed by the PNV as lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, will receive the necessary support from the Yeltzales bases in the internal election process.
The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, assured on Monday that he has not yet set the date of the next elections to the Basque Parliament, in which he will not be a candidate to repeat the position decided by his party, the PNV. On the other hand, he hopes that Imanol Pradales will receive the necessary support from the Yeltzal bases in the internal election process to be a candidate for lehendakari.
Urkullu stated at an event in Bilbao with the media that he has no electoral progress in mind and that he wants to continue with it on a daily basis because “there is still a lot to do”.
The parliamentary term ends in early July (the 2020 elections were held in the summer after being postponed in the spring due to the Covid-19 pandemic) and in June are the the European electionsso all parties are considering letting the Lehendakari bring them forward March to avoid being influenced by state elections.
Urkullu has indicated that he will not submit his candidature in his party’s internal process to identify the candidate for lehendakari. Asked if he would do it as the provincial delegate of Biscay Imanol Pradalesthe candidate presented by the PNV leadership as lehendakari does not get the support of the Jeltzal bases, he has said he hopes he will.
