Subcommittee – The Next Difficult Step for Markus Wallner

Date:

No applause at the ÖVP’s federal party conference, cheers and whistles at the championship celebration in Lustenau – it should also be rather uncomfortable for Markus Wallner in the U-committee next Wednesday in Vienna.

“The allegations that are being made are heavy. Among other things, it is about whether companies have really been harassed, placing advertisements and filling the party coffers,” said Nina Tomaselli, leader of the Greens in the corruption investigation committee of the ÖVP. She expects answers at the “Vorarlberg Days” next Wednesday and Thursday in Vienna. to all questions about the “Wirtschaftsbund-Tool”.

Tomaselli scolded in advance
In addition to two tax accountants, Governor Markus Wallner, Finance Minister Magnus Brunner, former director of the Economics Association Jürgen Kessler and entrepreneur Jürgen Rauch, who is responsible for the finances of the Vorarlberg Economics Association, are also present. A few questions about the accounting, which, according to Tomaselli, was characterized by “particular carelessness” are likely to be directed to the latter.

“And I’ve never seen an employee get an interest-free loan of 250,000 euros in recognition of their services – as signed by financial officer Rauch,” the resident of Feldkirch exulted in advance. In fact, Tomaselli seems well prepared for the two rounds of questions (one for six minutes and one for five minutes per faction and respondent).

“Contributions to the Enlightenment”
The other Vorarlberg National Councils are not (yet) members of the Commission of Inquiry. Reinhold Einwallner (SPÖ) will, however, be registered as an alternate member by his group. “I will probably ask questions on both days and I’m happy if I can contribute anything to the clarification.” On the one hand, he is concerned with “illegal or hidden party financing”, but on the other hand whether services have been promised in exchange for advertisements.

Gerald Loacker (NEOS) is particularly enthusiastic about Wallner’s strategy, which has to be the second person to answer questions on day one. “Wallner is in a sort of dilemma. If the governor refuses or says he can’t remember, that doesn’t paint a particularly good picture.”
