A new survey by the Austrian Association for European Politics (ÖGfE) shows: The number of skeptics has increased, but there is still strong interest in the EU elections.
66 percent of respondents support EU membership. In contrast, 29 percent prefer an exit, which corresponds to an increase of two percentage points. This development may be due to crises and uncertainties. “People in Austria want the EU to put the fight against inflation at the top of their priority list,” Paul Schmidt, secretary general of the ÖGfE, told “Krone”.
80 percent want to participate in the European elections
The willingness to participate in the European elections in June is high, almost 80 percent. In addition to the fight against inflation, the desire for a uniform asylum and migration policy is at the top of the respondents’ list.
Global issues such as strengthening the EU in the world, support for Ukraine and future EU expansions are rated relatively low.
