The parliamentary group EH Bildu has reached an agreement with the groups in the government, PNV and PSE-EE, and will vote in favor of the law on cooperation and solidarity that is being considered by the Basque Chamber and which considers that the Basque government will do so. “Spend 0.7% of gross national income on cooperation with developing countries” to fulfill the United Nations pledge.

In a statement, the coalition said that “PNV and PSE-EE have accepted their main contributions to the Lakua government’s original project.”

According to EH Bildu MP Diana Urrea, 0.7% is more than just a percentage; it represents a statement of intent that cannot be deviated from by a law of cooperation that is considered transformative, trend-setting and a benchmark. To date, the government has not met the United Nations commitment and it is important that this new law reflects this and makes it concrete.”

In this sense, he emphasized that the agreement reached “values ​​this rate of 0.7% with the government’s commitment to increase its investments until that goal is achieved” and “also implies greater transparency and accountability regarding cooperation policies, as well as a commitment to education for social transformation.”

As explained by the EH Bildu parliamentarian, the content of the agreement “is in line with the demands and aspirations of Basque social actors” and in this sense the law recognizes “the role of non-profit organizations.”

Furthermore, Urrea explained that “Lakua, as requested by EH Bildu, renounces the repeal of Law 14/2007 on the Charter of Justice and Solidarity with Impoverished Countries, a law that contains very valid elements for the adequate development of cooperation and solidarity and which are very important for social movements, especially in the international context in which we live.

Finally, she explained that the future standard “will have the clear aim of promoting Basque cooperation and solidarity from a feminist dimension and the defense of human rights, the environment and democratic principles, so that it can contribute to more effective policies, fairer and fairer policies. sustainable development and inclusive growth, as well as the promotion of peace and conflict resolution.
