The FPÖ’s appointment of Peter Westenthaler to the ORF Board of Trustees continues to cause controversy. After the SPÖ, the ORF editorial team now also wants to stop the former FPÖ and BZÖ politician.
The reason for this is Westenthaler’s statements that the ORF journalists are a ‘propaganda machine’ – and his announcement that he wants to regularly ‘inform’ about the meetings of the supervisory board of a rival channel for which he works.
Call to the federal government
The editorial asks the federal government to check the compatibility of his appointment with the provisions of the ORF law before appointing Westenthaler.
The editors also turned to the FPÖ and asked them “to nominate, if necessary, a personality who meets the criteria of the ORF law.” SPÖ media spokeswoman Muna Duzdar has already submitted a similar request to Media Minister Susanne Raab. She also sees a possible incompatibility.
