Dirty election campaign – slander, madness, racism and gasoline

Date:

This election campaign will go down in history. The allegations surrounding the Green top candidate Lena Schilling and the failed crisis communication of the Greens dominated the whole. But what did the other parties actually do? The “Krone” takes stock of a unique and dirty election campaign.

Not surprisingly, Schilling was the politician with the most media presence in May. The accusations against the 23-year-old, published by ‘Standard’, kept her at the center of news coverage for weeks. With 645 articles, she is well ahead of FPÖ candidate Harald Vilimsky in the APA-Comm ranking of EU candidates with a total of 199 articles, the leaders of the SPÖ and ÖVP, Andreas Schieder (150 articles) and Reinhold Lopatka (137 articles ) as well as the candidate of the NEOS, Helmut Brandstätter (86 contributions). However, this media presence was anything but positive for Schilling.
