Tyrolean State Parliament – LH Mattle: “The lock system is not a pipe dream!”

Date:

“How high is the upper limit for truck journeys in Tyrol if the slot system is introduced?”, the opposition in the state parliament wanted to know, among other things, on Wednesday. The slot system for transit vehicles was again presented as a solution, although much is still uncertain.

Will the neighbouring countries accept this? Should Tyrol relax the night driving ban? What happens to the reserved time slots of the truck in the event of an accident or traffic jam? And above all: how high is the upper limit?” These and many more questions were put to LH Anton Mattle in the state parliament on Wednesday.

Goal: equalize peak times
Mattle did not specify a quantitative upper limit. He did confirm that he wanted to adhere to the night driving ban. The aim is to equalize the traffic peaks in the morning, for example. The traffic volume must be distributed over the day within the approved time window. In Hamburg, too, the system was initially viewed with scepticism.

Harmonization of rail transport
Mattle apparently expects an introduction close to the completion of the Brenner Base Tunnel, which would result in a shift and relief for the population. The planned system for the Brenner is similar to that in Hamburg, “the same questions were asked there too”. The handling for the shipping companies is very simple. “Experience shows that the system is not a pipe dream, it works.” However, harmonization of international rail traffic is essential.
