The ‘More Grips’ initiative presented its fourth paper with demands for Austrian politics on Wednesday. This includes a mandatory nine-month social service for all citizens and people with a residence permit up to the age of 25.
Like community service, this should also be able to be performed in place of basic military service. According to the experts, further suggestions for “social stability” include a second compulsory year of kindergarten, a legal right to childcare from the age of one, and standard training for nursing teachers. In addition, working conditions in nursing should be improved; a five-year plan would be needed for this.
Money for violence prevention
On Wednesday, More Grips also proposed “appropriate basic security” and higher labor participation to combat poverty, as well as integration from “zero hour.” Austrian politicians should develop a “comprehensive, overarching” strategy for migration. In the area of violence prevention, national action plans and money would still be needed to successfully implement them.
Well-known members
According to its self-description, the initiative consists of “committed people”. In the beginning, around thirty people came together to “give impulses for better politics”. Well-known people include AMS boss Johannes Kopf, WIFO director Gabriel Felbermayr and climate activist Katharina Rogenhofer.
In mid-May, ideas on ecology were presented, followed in June by suggestions on education and digital transformation. The finished concept will be sent to the club presidents and responsible representatives.
