Iran’s Foreign Ministry has defended the country’s ambassador to Vienna over his controversial Hezbollah post. Tehran said the militia was a legitimate liberation and resistance movement against Israeli occupation.
As reported, Iranian Ambassador to Vienna Abbas Bagherpour Ardekani commented on the Lebanese Hezbollah airstrikes on Israel on Sunday. On Platform X, he used the militia flag and wrote that it would achieve victory. Since Hezbollah and its symbols are banned in Austria, Ardekani was summoned to the Foreign Ministry. A complaint was also filed against him.
This reaction cannot be understood in Iran. It is “incompatible with the geopolitical realities of the region” and harmful to bilateral relations between the two countries, said the director-general for Western Europe of the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Hezbollah is a legitimate liberation and resistance movement against the Israeli occupation, the report said.
Invited home for protest
On Tuesday, the Austrian ambassador to Iran, Wolf Dietrich Heim, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Tehran. The ministry in Vienna confirmed this. Tehran said he was summoned to protest Austria’s actions.
