Donald Trump has spread even more misinformation about the US election. The former US president has now threatened alleged election fraudsters with consequences if he returns to the White House.
“If I win, the people who cheated will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, including lengthy prison sentences, to ensure that this corruption of justice does not happen again,” Trump wrote on the online platforms Truth Social and X.
Trump’s comments are a reference to the 2020 election, in which he lost to incumbent President Joe Biden. He has never acknowledged his clear defeat – and critics fear that this could happen again after the November election.
Trump repeats election lie
Democrats “cheated extensively” in the election four years ago, Trump again claimed in the post — though several courts have investigated such allegations and dismissed them as baseless.
The events at the time were a disgrace to the country, Trump said. The 2024 election will therefore take place under “the strictest professional observation”. “Those involved in unconscionable conduct will be sought out, apprehended and prosecuted on a scale that has unfortunately never been seen in our country.”
Is there a threat of violence again?
Trump is seeking a second term in the White House in November and is running against current Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democrats. He has already made it clear that he will not accept another election defeat. In this case, political observers see renewed potential for political unrest.
