EH Bildu sees an “opportunity” to advance in the PNV round on the new status

Date:

“We want it, we have all the dispositions to bring joy to the country, and the country needs great agreements,” Otegi stressed, referring to Ortuzar’s announcement.

The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has announced that the sovereigntist formation will participate in the round of parties proposed by the PNV on the new status, and is convinced that “we have a chance to move forward in this direction.” . “We want it, we have all the predispositions to bring joy to the country and the country needs great agreements,” he stressed.

Otegi responded in this way, at a press conference in San Sebastián, to the statements made on Monday by the president of the PNV, Andoni Ortuzar, who announced that he would start contacts with the top officials of the PNV at the end of the year. In September or early October, the rest of the Basque parties will “start talking” about “the self-government of the future”, a process for which, in his opinion, “the conditions have been met”, although “with difficulties”.

In his speech, the leader of EH Bildu pointed out that he will not accept the idea that “it is up to the first match of the country this lead, because it depends on what we understand by the country; the first party in nationalist terms is Euskal Herria Bildu, but I don’t care. They took the initiative and we accept it.” Thus, he declared that the sovereigntist formation “will be in that round.”

Regarding Ortuzar’s statements that the PNV ‘the temperature of political parties“, Otegi stated that what he wants to know is “what is the temperature” of the jeltzale formation, because, as he emphasized, “ours is very clear.”

Regarding the idea expressed by the president of the EBB of “whether or not there is water to move forward”, the leader of Abertzale recalled that in Gipuzkoa, Araba and Bizkaia “there is a parliament democratically and peacefully elected by the people, in which there are 75 deputies 55. We think that we are a nation and that we have the right to decide.

“In these three areas, 100% of councils think we are a nation that has the right to decide. By absolute majority everyone thinks we are a nation that has the right to decide. And in this country the social majority, the cultural majority and the union majority think exactly the same. Water in spades, water exists,” he said.

In the case of NavarreArnaldo Otegi believes that “exactly the same thing must be done”, and has reiterated that EH Bildu “scrupulously respects the will of the Navarrese people”, while defending that “to those who claim to be Navarrese, that Navarrese men and women can decide everything, not just a little, including what model of relations they want with the rest of the Basque territories, if they so wish.

Arnaldo Otegi, when asked about Ortuzar’s criticism of EH Bildu for using parliamentary proposals to act “with political aggression” against the Basque government, said: “What seems to me politically striking is that someone understands it, and that speaks to some extent of the extent to which the degradation of conventional politics has reached, The opposition asking parliamentary questions is an attack“.
