Date:

Imanol Pradales admits that they do not know the status of the two Bilbao residents detained in the Latin American country and accused of terrorism. In the same way, he calls for “exerting international pressure” so that “the authoritarian regime” of Maduro is changed.

The lehendakari, Imanol Pradaleshas stated that the Basque government is trying open diplomatic relations to obtain information about the residents of Bilbao who are being held Venezuelaaccused of planning terrorist acts. According to Pradales, the Foreign Action Secretariat of the Basque government is working with embassies of other countries, including discussions with the Venezuelan consulate itself and with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“What is happening is that at the moment relations between Spain and Venezuela are not at their best, but at least there are always channels, we have them open to get information to help first, above all, the families here, with whom we communicate,” he said in an interview with TeleBilbao.

The Lehendakari has recognised that They do not know the status of the two arrested“We try to accompany the family and whenever we can receive information, we share it with them, who are the ones who are under the greatest pressure at the moment,” he said.

Pradales expressed his concern that there are people in Euskadi who “support the authoritarian and dictatorial regime” of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, where “the most fundamental rights, namely civil, political and human rights, are not respected.” As an example, he cited that the head of the Venezuelan opposition, “who seems to have won the elections, had to leave through the Spanish embassy to go into exile because his life was in danger.”

As he pointed out, there are also other countries such as US who have spoken out ‘clearly’ and ‘what we need is practice international pressure from the established and advanced democracies, so that the need is felt there the authoritarian regime has changed who is the one ruling that country today.”

Meeting with Sánchez

Regarding the meeting he plans to hold with the Spanish President on Friday in Moncloa, Pradales has assured that he will go “from words to deeds”, in full compliance with the Gernika Statute, and will accelerate the transmission of pending transfers.

“We have a number of issues pending that need to be transferred to Euskadi, which are recognised in the Statute of Gernika. I agreed with him that we needed to give this issue a different pace, that there was also a political agreement with the PNV through which he had been president and which showed that this issue had to be closed in the next two years, and this is an issue that is very relevant to me,” he stated.

He also recalled that he and Sánchez promised to hold a meeting in the fall bilateral commission of cooperation between Euskadi and the State, and intends to address this issue again so that an initial transfer package can be handed over as soon as possible.

In this way, he referred to the six that are most advanced: coastal planning and management, initial work permits for foreigners, maritime rescue, meteorology, national machine verification center and cinematography protection fund.
