Slovenian Minister Stojmenova Duh resigns after motion of no confidence

Date:

Slovenian Digital Transformation Minister Emilija Stojmenova Duh has come under extra pressure ahead of a no-confidence vote on Friday. The reason for this was the illegal blue light driving in Austria. Now Stojmenova Duh is resigning.

According to a report by TV channel N1, the minister illegally used blue light on her official car during a business trip to Austria in the spring on Wednesday. Slovenian Digital Affairs Minister Emilija Stojmenova Duh already faced further difficulties on Friday with a planned vote of no confidence. The Slovenian minister has now announced her resignation.

Blue light due to high delay
According to N1, Stojmenova Duh or her driver had the blue lights on illegally used her company car so as not to miss her flight from Vienna to Geneva.

Apparently, the Slovenian minister and her driver got into a traffic jam on the A2 motorway. In an attempt to circumvent this, the driver illegally activated the blue lights of the company car. According to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, this was a clear violation of the regulations.

Apparently multiple violations by the minister
However, according to reports, this was not the only traffic violation the driver committed during the journey to Vienna. The official vehicle of the Slovenian minister was detected by a radar system in Austria for excessive speed. The Austrian police then contacted the responsible Slovenian ministry to obtain information about the driver and the incident.

Instead of providing the requested information, the Slovenian Ministry for Digital Transformation wrote to its own embassy in Vienna, calling on the embassy to intervene with the Austrian authorities and ask them not to prosecute or punish the driver. The reason given was that the driver was “forced to turn on the blue lights so that the minister would not miss her flight.”

Minister: There are “many untruths”
The minister’s response also sparked further outrage. In it, the minister pointed the finger at the media, saying that there were “many untruths” in the reporting. She pointed out that she herself had never asked drivers to turn on their blue lights, neither domestically nor abroad, “so that’s a lie.” “The employees of the Ministry of Digital Transformation have always acted in accordance with the instructions of the relevant authorities,” Minister Stojmenova Duh added.
