The First Secretary of State throws in the towel: Andrea Mayer, responsible for arts and culture, resigns from her position on Wednesday after the federal government is dismissed.
Her office announced its decision Tuesday. The move had been “long agreed upon” and took place “at Mayer’s own request,” the report said. “It was a great pleasure and honor for me” to shape the preconditions for art and culture, said the outgoing State Secretary. Mayer will soon return to the presidential office.
Mayer promises to be open to arts and cultural matters
Before her appointment, she already worked there as cabinet director. In 2020, Mayer was appointed Secretary of State. “In my new role, I will always have an open ear for concerns in the field of arts and culture,” she announced.
Kogler: took office “at the most difficult moment imaginable”.
Until a new government is formed, the cultural agenda will be taken over by Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens). “Andrea Mayer took over the office of State Secretary for Arts and Culture at the most difficult time imaginable for the industry, during the Corona crisis,” he thanked. Mayer “dedicated himself with all his strength, expertise and great sensitivity to the Austrian art and culture scene,” said Kogler
