Vote of confidence – Nehammer remains firmly in the saddle after the elections

Date:

As expected, the ÖVP board unanimously expressed its confidence in Karl Nehammer on Tuesday.

The chancellor announced on Monday morning that he would undergo the vote of confidence within the party. A vote of no confidence was not expected, as many party leaders had previously expressed their support for the party leader.

Among them were Upper Austrian Governor Thomas Stelzer, Lower Austrian Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and club president August Wöginger, all of whom declared upon arrival in Vienna’s Lichtenfelsgasse that they would stay with Nehammer. When it comes to forming a government or exploratory talks, “others have their say first.”

ÖVP as a playmaker in coalition poker
The election results will also be discussed during the meeting and further action will be discussed. It is still unclear whether negotiating teams will be put together for exploratory talks. The ÖVP lost first place and recorded a record loss of 11 percentage points. Nevertheless, she is the playmaker in the emerging coalition poker. Because it is part of four of the five theoretically possible coalitions.
