Feijóo stands as “alternative to Sánchez’s government” and sees “hunger for change”

Date:

The XX Congress of the PP has elected Alberto Núñez Feijóo as the new leader of the party with 98.35% of the vote.

The recently proclaimed chairman of the PP, Alberto Nunez Feijoodelivered his first speech as national leader at the XX Extraordinary Congress in Seville, establishing himself as an “alternative” to the current government of Pedro Sánchez, and assured that he saw “hunger for change” during his tour of Spain .

“Spain deserves more than a divided government, it deserves the best,” the still president of the Xunta declared in his maiden speech this Saturday after he was also proclaimed leader of the PP at the national level at the XX Extraordinary Congress in Seville. 98.35% of the votes.

On this point, Feijóo has verified the “unity” of this Congress in Seville to “address the people personally and ensure that the PP will never play with public interests”. “There is another way to rule,” he emphasized.

Likewise, he has argued for the easing of tension in current politics: “Enough polemic and opposing one another. Let’s end the sterile debates. Why can’t we political parties talk? I said I’m not here to chair the the government, but to defeat him. Of course, with all due respect, I ask him not to hide or insult the majority of Spaniards, to respect us.”

For his part, the outgoing president of the PP, Pablo Casado, announced on Thursday that he will leave his seat in the Congress of Deputies and that he will resign from any responsibility in the party. He did so during his speech at the PP congress, where he thanked his successor, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, for his offer to continue working in the party, but which he declined.
