Donald Trump has often threatened his political opponents with “retaliation” if he returns to power. Moreover, he said last year that he would act as a “dictator” on the first day of his takeover and make extensive use of his powers. Now he is causing outrage with statements about ‘radical leftists’ against whom he would deploy the National Guard or the army in extreme cases.
“I think the bigger problem is the enemy within, not even the people who came here and destroyed our country,” the Republican presidential candidate told Fox News on Sunday, referring to alleged criminal migrants arriving en masse. “We have some very bad people here, sick people, radical left-wing lunatics,” the Republican former president said. The state must address these, “if necessary with the National Guard or, if absolutely necessary, with the military,” Trump added. His comments answered a question about his expectations for Election Day on November 5. The 78-year-old warned that unrest could arise from militant opponents.
‘More dangerous than China and Russia’
A few days ago, US President Joe Biden said about the upcoming elections that he was “confident that they will be free and fair.” However, he “doesn’t know if it will be peaceful.” Trump now expressed the view that there are some radical American citizens who are “more dangerous than China, Russia and all these countries.”
The campaign team of Trump’s Democratic rival Kamala Harris immediately criticized the comments. “I know people have gotten bored of Trump over the last decade,” Harris campaign spokesman Ian Sams said. The ex-president’s latest statements should be “shocking” for American citizens.
Democrats speak of “scary statements”
Coupled with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to grant a president immunity for his official actions and Trump’s announcement that he has been “a dictator from day one” who is willing to allow the “abolition” of the Constitution, these are ‘frightening’, Sams explained.
