The security advisor to the Basque government, Bingen Zupiriaunderstands the protests of neighbors about the problems of living together in the Coronación neighborhoods of Vitoria-Gasteiz or the Trintxerpe neighborhoods of Pasaia, although they have called on the community not to take the law into their own hands.
In an interview for the program “Boulevard” on Radio Euskadi, Zupiria acknowledged that there are “some places” in Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz with a “greater” sense of insecurity and “specific conflict situations”, such as those caused by the occupation of markets in the Coronación neighborhoods of Vitoria-Gasteiz or Trintxerpe in Pasaia.
Regarding these two cases, Zupiria, on the one hand, demands that legal action be taken to vacate and close the occupied fish markets, and on the other hand, he has asked for care so that righteous people do not have to pay for sinners.
On the other hand, Zupiria has said that the use of individual cameras in uniforms from November will give “greater security” to citizens and the officers themselves. The Minister of Security explained that the measure to include cameras in the uniform of all Ertzaintza units working on the streets will be gradually implemented in early November.
