During a public consultation on the American broadcaster CNN, moderator Anderson Cooper asked the 60-year-old Democratic presidential candidate on Wednesday evening (local time): “Do you think Donald Trump is a fascist?” Harris replied without any hesitation: “Yes, I do. ”
American presidential candidate Kamala Harris considers her Republican opponent in the race for the presidency, former President Donald Trump, to be a fascist.
The question was prompted by statements made by Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly. He told the New York Times that he believes Trump “falls under the common definition of a fascist.”
He referred to the description of fascism as an extreme right-wing, authoritarian and ultra-nationalist ideology that includes a dictatorial leader and oppression of the opposition.
“Emergency declaration issued to the American people”
With his comments about Trump, Kelly sent a “distress call to the American people” pointing out what could happen if Trump returned to the White House. The people who could ‘stop him’ are no longer there. “I believe Donald Trump is a threat to the well-being and security of America,” Harris said.
Competitor ‘unsuitable for the office’
Trump is “increasingly unstable” and “unfit for office,” she continued. The ex-president’s former aides and close confidantes have pointed out that Trump despises the Constitution of the United States and should never hold the office of president again.
- Donald Trump and Harris will face off in the presidential election on November 5. Trump wants to return to the White House after his first term (2017-2021) and his election defeat in 2020.
- The sitting vice president Kamala Harris took over the Democratic Party’s candidacy after incumbent Joe Biden resigned in late July. She would be the first woman to head the world’s largest economic and military power. Opinion polls predict an extremely close election outcome.
The US election campaign has reached its final stages. There will be elections in just under two weeks, on November 5. Opinion polls predict a close race.
