The same sources have specified that the first meeting of this bilateral body will take place in Madrid and is the result of the “commitment” reached on September 20 during the meeting between Imanol Pradales and Pedro Sánchez to convene this bilateral commission and move forward in the cooperation agenda between both governments and the transfer of the pending powers of the Statute of Gernika.

That is why one of the objectives of this Commission is to try to achieve this monitoring and promoting the full development of the Statutewhich is celebrating its 45th anniversary as 29 transfers are still pending.

At the last meeting between Lehendakari and Pedro Sánchez last September, it was agreed that the Bilateral Commission for Permanent Cooperation would meet at the end of October to promote pending transfers, a meeting that will ultimately take place on November 6.

During that meeting, Pradales presented the President of the Central Government with a transfer calendar which the Lehendakari described as “realistic and achievable” to complete all pending transfers next year.

A deadline set in the investment agreement which was signed on November 10, 2023 by the President of the PNV, Andoni Ortuzar, and Pedro Sánchez himself, as that document set two years for the transfer of all nationals to Euskadi.
