EH Bildu regrets that “the historical debt” with the residents of Bilbao’s southern neighborhoods “seems far from resolved”.
The Provincial Council of Bizkaia has asked the Basque government for more “information and specificity” to analyze the possible change in the construction project of metro line 4 and its connection through Moyua station, instead of Abando.
EH Bildu this Wednesday, during the plenary session of the Regional Government of Bizkaia, asked questions about the layout and the level of progress of Line 4 of the suburban line, which she has described as a “historic debt” to the neighborhoods in the south of Bilbao.
The sovereigntist coalition, which has questioned the reasons why the signing service for the construction project has been postponed for a year, also wanted to know the opinion of the Provincial Council on the best option to establish the connection with the rest of the suburban lines.
In her response, the General Deputy of Bizkaia, Elixabete Etxanobe, conveyed the Provincial Council’s “firm commitment” to public transport and reiterated that, despite not having powers in railway matters corresponding to the Basque Government, the Provincial Council maintains its “commitment” to Line 4.
After guaranteeing that they would cooperate in financing infrastructure, he emphasized that the regional objective is to connect the Enkarterri region “as quickly as possible” and respond to the Bilbao neighborhoods of Rekalde and Irala. “Our goal is territorial cohesion,” he argued.
However, he has acknowledged that the Provincial Council only has the Basque Government’s “initial proposal” regarding the change of route, which would entail the connection of Line 4 to the Moyua station.
The change proposed by the Executive has its origins in the fact that the new branch could only be put into operation after the completion of the work on the Abando High Speed Train Station.
Etxanobe has thus acknowledged that the Provincial Council has asked the Basque Government for “more specificity and information” in order to analyze the amendment “in depth” and to be able to study issues such as its technical and economic feasibility, as well as its environmental aspects and demand. and frequency studies.
He also announced that representatives of the Bizkaia Provincial Council will hold a meeting with the Metro Line 4 platform next week. “With all this, we will make the most appropriate decision,” he concluded.
