The Ministry of the Interior is helping Syrians who want to return home. The Federal Healthcare Agency (BBU) recently started paying up to 1,000 euros for a “new start”. Support is also provided in organizing the trip home and in obtaining the necessary documents.
Return advice is continuously available, but targeted campaigns are occasionally added to further motivate people from certain countries of origin. One such initiative has now started with Syrians after the Assad regime fell there.
The Federal Care Agency said that the vast majority of Syrians considering returning are currently still observing the unclear situation in their country of origin. She now receives more and more questions, even though they are rarely about anything specific.
Recently, up to 1,000 euros were offered for a ‘new start’, support with the journey home and with obtaining the necessary documents. As reported, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) recently announced that he would provide support to Syrians willing to return. There was even talk of organizing flights.
According to Karner, the next step will be to bring people out of Austria who have become criminals and do not want to integrate or enter the labor market. The condition is an appropriate security situation in Syria.
