The Council of Ministers transfers ownership of the building on Avenida Marceu in Paris back to the PNV

According to the EBB, the decision is ‘historic’ because it addresses ‘a legitimate claim’ that the Jeltzales have been making for ‘decades’. The building was acquired by the PNV in 1937 and served as the headquarters of the Basque government in exile for many years.

The Euzkadi Buru Batzar has appreciated the decision of the Spanish government “recognize and return to EAJ-PNV the ownership of the building Avenue Marceau in Paris” who acquired the Jeltzale formation in 1937 and that For years it was the headquarters of the Basque government in exile.

In a statement, the EBB confirmed that this decision is “justice” because it recognizes that the building was acquired by the PNV, “and it is historic, as comes to handle a legitimate claim that EAJ-PNV has been proposing for decades.”

In this sense, the Jeltzale Executive thanked the work that “dozens and dozens of EAJ-PNV officials and militants have done during these years, keeping the flame of this demand alive. The decision we have today represents the best recognition and greater tribute to his great work throughout all that time.”

The Council of Ministers agreed on Monday, in accordance with the Ninth Additional Provision of Law 20/22 of Democratic Memory, that “the ownership of the real estate owned by the General Administration of the State, located in Paris, Avenue Marceau , number 11, are attributed to Euzko Alderdi Yeltzalea-Basque Nationalist Party, with attention to the historical connection of the building with this party”.

The transfer of ownership of the property to the jetzales is “immediate”, but since the building is currently occupied by the Cervantes Institute and is at full capacity, it is agreed that this institution you can continue to use it during a transition period established by the central executive until December 31, 2030.

During this period, the Spanish government will pay the PNV “a market rent” for the use and enjoyment of the building.
