Injured during protest – Gulf states demand Israel’s withdrawal from Syria

Date:

The fact that the Israeli army is continuously expanding its sphere of influence in neighboring Syria is being viewed with extreme criticism internationally. Now the Gulf states have called on Israel to withdraw. Meanwhile, there is increasing resistance among the Syrian civilian population.

The Israeli army has entered Syria’s buffer zone on the Golan Heights after the overthrow of Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad more than two weeks ago and is apparently considering longer-term control of the area. The soldiers advanced to an area under UN supervision under the 1974 ceasefire. The leadership in Jerusalem says it wants to prevent armed groups from attacking Israel from the high plateau. Israel captured the area this side of the armistice during the Six-Day War in 1967 and unilaterally annexed it in 1981.

“Serious violation of international law”
Israel’s occupation constitutes a serious violation of international law, according to the final statement of a Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Kuwait. The international community has a responsibility to stop attacks on Syrian territory and ensure Israel’s withdrawal from the Syrian territories it occupies.

There have been increasing protests in occupied villages for days. Unrest broke out again on Wednesday. Israeli soldiers shot at civilians protesting against the Israeli advance in the towns of Suweisa and Dawaja on Wednesday, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Five people, including a minor, were injured.

The Israeli army speaks of warning shots
The Israeli military said protesters had approached the soldiers. They were asked to withdraw. When the warnings were not heeded, warning shots were fired. Reports of injured civilians were investigated.
