EH Bildu’s spokesperson in Congress believed that 2025 should be the year “not of the new status” for Euskadi because political processes take time, but rather “the year of laying solid foundations” for it.
The spokesperson for EH Bildu in Congress, Mertxe Aizpuruahas considered the realization of a “minimum agreement” between the nationalist forces and the Socialist Party possible in order to make progress in the future self-government Basque.
Aizpurua, in an interview on Radio Euskadi, opined that 2025 should be the year “not of the new status” for Euskadi because political processes take time, but rather “the year of laying solid foundations” for it.
He has indicated that it is about first reaching an agreement, “a minimum floor”, in Euskadi, which he considers possible to reach with the Socialist Party, about whose position he has said: “There are times when in politics it is said what is said in front of the media “It’s one thing, but what is actually thought is another, and it wouldn’t be the first time this kind of surprise has happened.”
He also pointed out that the Spanish government has a “responsibility” in this area, because the issue of self-government “will not disappear and the conflict will be permanent”.
In defense of “national recognition of Euskal Herria”has insisted on defending “a minimum agreement between the Basques and also with the Catalans and Galicians.”
As for the tax on energy companiesAizpurua has expressed confidence that the government will fulfill its “commitment” to convert it into a tax and allow it to be collected and administered in the Basque Country, stating that it does not see “why” the Junts and the PNV this tax cannot support the validation of the measure in Congress.
The representative of Abertzale has shamed these two parties for choosing “to be influenced and governed on the basis of big corporations” and for wanting to abolish the said tax “to favor them and so that they would have more benefits. “
Aizpurua has warned that EH Bildu will not support the government ‘whatever it does’, but has indicated that among possible supports we are ‘very solid’ because we are ‘the clearest’ and ‘we do not cheat’.
On the other hand, he described the entry of the Basque Pelota Federation into the international federation of this sport as “good news” and hoped that this would open “a path” for a Basque team to compete in “any sport”.
