Former consultant Gotzone Sagardui, appointed medical director of the Vithas private clinic in Vitoria-Gasteiz

Date:

When asked about the appointment, current advisor Alberto Martínez emphasizes that “there has been no commercial relationship with that clinic, and there will be none in the near future.” For EH Bildu it is “a reward for the services that Sagardui provides to the private healthcare sector.

The former Minister of Health of the Basque Government (2020-2024), Gotzone Sagarduihas been appointed new medical director of the Vithas Hospital Victoriaone of the most relevant private clinics in the capital Alava.

The appointment simply takes place half a year later of his departure from the executive branch, where Alberto Martínez now holds the position. Sagardui, a civil servant, has been deputy manager of UPV/EHU’s Bizkaia campus for the past six months.

The name has the approval of the Basque government’s incompatibilities committee, as the center disagrees with Osakidetza.

Exactly, when the Minister of Health was questioned about this, Alberto Martinezhas reported that there has been “no commercial relationship with that clinic” in the past, and that yesterday the private center was informed that “there will be none in the future either.”

For her part, the parliamentarian of EH Bildu, Nerea Kortajaarna has assured that Sagardui’s appointment is an “award for the services provided” to the private healthcare sector during her stay at the head of the Basque government department.

Kortajaarna has received the news with a “sense of anger and a lack of surprise” and has asked the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, if it is appropriate because of the ethical pact he promotes and because of the “exemplary” of the public positions he defends. He also questioned adviser Alberto Martínez to clarify whether “it seems appropriate, whether it gives credibility to the policy” and whether it makes it easier for citizens to understand that it is possible for Osakidetza to respond to their concerns.

“They will say it is legal, but it is neither ethical, nor aesthetic, nor harmless. You cannot normalize what is not normal. Neither I nor my colleague Rebeka Ubera will have any appointment in private healthcare,” he concluded.
