The Free Democrats (FDP) are having a hard time after the traffic light was blown up in Germany. Boss Christian Lindner and his entourage are accused of calculated misconduct that led to the partial dissolution of the German government. Now a cake made of shaving foam ended up on the ex-finance minister’s face (see video above).
A young woman threw foam in the face of the top politician during an election campaign in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as photos show. Afterwards, Lindner stood there completely confused, but did not escalate the situation, according to eyewitnesses.
Lindner tasted the foam and continued his speech. “Unfortunately it wasn’t cream, it was soap,” the liberal reportedly said. “At least they could have done that better, then I would have benefited from it too,” Lindner said to his attacker as he wiped his face with a napkin. The top politician put some of the foam back into the woman’s hair.
The young woman was immediately wrestled to the ground by security forces. Before shoving the cake in the ex-Finance Minister’s face, she said mockingly: “Dear Mr. Lindner!”
The ex-finance minister spoke to several people in a small room during the constituency event in Greifswald. The FDP spokeswoman spoke of an unacceptable physical attack. Lindner wanted to come to Rostock in the afternoon.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) dismissed Lindner at the end of 2024, eliminating the FDP from the traffic lights. Since then, Scholz has only governed together with the Greens and no longer has a majority in parliament.
According to internal documents of the smallest government partner, the FDP leader is accused of trying to break the coalition since the summer to prevent the party’s threatened expulsion from the Bundestag, investigations show.
