Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) made his first phone call as interim chancellor on Friday. The politician announced this on Platform X and posted a photo of him holding his mobile phone to his ear.
Schallenberg held his first telephone conversation as interim chancellor with German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD). “Germany and Austria are not only neighbors, but above all close partners. This is especially essential in politically turbulent times,” he wrote.
Netto: “Equally incompetent”
The users on X overwhelmingly rejected the call and Schallenberg’s behavior in the comments. He shouldn’t make himself so important, they say. After all, he is “currently only a director”. “Both equally incompetent,” said one user.
You can see Schallenberg’s message here.
The “politically turbulent times” are only “due to bad politicians”. “Why do you, as Chancellor, have to constantly post when you’re on the phone?” asked another user on Friday evening.
The supporters, on the other hand, wish Schallenberg the best of luck and success;
As reported, Schallenberg was charged with chairmanship of the government on Friday by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen. He will remain interim chancellor until there is a new cabinet. Scholz will probably be elected candidate for chancellor at the SPD federal party congress on Saturday. However, he is not doing well in the current polls ahead of the German federal elections on February 23.
