Children must learn at school, not get married. Politicians agree. But not in implementation: Minister of Justice Anna Sporrer (Spö) now warns Minister of Integration Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP) of “Quick Shots”.
The federal government wants to expand the marriage ban. Not only marriage under 18 or between cousins is prohibited, the marriages of children who are concluded abroad must no longer be permitted in the future. At the second point, Minister of ÖVP Plakolm saw her red government colleague Sporrer.
For his part, this is now in line with “Krone”: “Children or forced seekers are not already recognized abroad. The so-called, Ordre Public” clause here applies that provisions are not applied if the application violates the basic values of the Austrian legal system, “explains the former highest court (Federal Administrative Court).
Integration package without details
All legal changes behind it should be broadly and carefully coordinated. “There should be no political fast shots here. Because many different authorities (municipal offices, registration offices, etc.) are influenced, who have to do with marriages and families that are closed abroad. An extensive integration of all responsible departments and positions at federal, national and community level is indicated.” All changes to international private law should be discussed in peace.
The government presented its integration package on Wednesday. Essential details – for example in the regulation of social assistance – are still missing. Minister Plakolm again emphasized: “If you want to stay with us, you must learn German, try to work and live our laws.” That is why there should be a waiting time of three years for social benefits with a mandatory integration program with three years.
