Research into the “Kroon” and the “profile” show: while patients throughout the country are shortened by the benefits for health insurance poles at the doctor, 250 managers of the Austrian health insurance fund found a two -day seminar in a luxury hotel with a golf club and wellness oasis. The cash register justifies:
Budget deficit, managers, seminar and luxury hotel in Salzburg – was there anything? Correct. As the “Krone” revealed, our governors chose a luxurious hotel with five Star in Salzburg for their next conference and the meeting with the federal government. It was criticized – and at least the members of the federal government did not use the overnight stay.

Now it appears: the sources of Salzburg are probably generally for meetings of this “room category”. Because, because the “Kroon” and the “profile” showed photos and evidence, the managers of the Austrian health insurance fund lived at the beginning of May for a seminar in the Idyllic Saalfelden Hotel Gut Brandlhof. Only that not only nine heads of state and the federal governors consulted there, but also the entire higher manager level – and therefore a total of 250 (!) People.
Shuttle service for the managers
The ‘health managers’ of the cash register were picked up by bus and service from all parts of Austria. Apparently a good and lived tradition. “According to Saalfelden IV” it was already said in the in -house -intranet for “Saalfelde V” last year. Since the cash register was assumed (January 1, 2020), Saalfelden has been attended at least every year. And so this year – despite a gaping budget hole of 900 million euros and – as reported – massive savings in the benefits of health insurance for patients. Because of the savings, MRI and CT investigations and physiotherapy are approval in a first step. In addition, patients with health insurance policies will even have to pay for transport themselves.
Only what was done parallel to the continuous negotiations on the hard cuts in the on -site health system in the hotel? And how do the seminars fit into the purpose of the ÖGK to save on administrative costs? New research from the “profile” showed that the administrative costs even rose by 38 percent for five years.
Bobby Cars -Balloons
Well – the exact program is not known. However, photos show how balloons were blown up and assembled on Bobby cars and enthusiastic works at Handicraft workshops. “Ögk we incorrect all balls” can be read on an Ögk poster in the hotel and the golf club. In an internal review after the meeting in 2024, the stay there was summarized: “Which ingenious master builder our managers are outside the desks, it was not only in the group names. Mission impossible, balloon ride, together in the air, Ögkar, Ögkar and much more intensive on joint success”. In the case of an internal analysis of savings potential in the cash register, even 500,000 euros are mentioned under the exams. That leaves room for speculation. In any case, the cash register tries to clarify.
ÖGK has opted for “cheapest offer”
“The Austrian Health Insurance Fund is an Austrian company with more than 12,000 employees who work in nine federal states. Once a year there is a 2.5-day managing examination to develop strategic and content-related goals. Because the employees work in nine different regional offices, a place of both media is in the middle of Austria.
The arrival of the regional offices in buses so that there is no mileage for individual arrival, moreover this is of course more environmentally friendly. “There are few accommodations in Austria that can accommodate so many employees and also offer the right infrastructure for workshops. Of course, comparison offers have been obtained here, the ÖGK has decided the most cost -effective variant,” is added.
Schellhorn: Environmental potential implemented on the exam
For the strategic orientation of the ÖGK it is also logical that all managers meet once a year to discuss the further orientation of the ÖGK. This is all the more true when the Ögk is still a fairly young organization and the merger of course caused a large change process. “The annual management exam in Saalfelden is not in the least used to further determine the culture of a common ÖGK. As part of the financial consolidation, we check all our costs and we identify the saving potential, which has also been carried out and implemented in the management exam,” it goes further.
“Unfortunately, there is no way to carry out an exam with 250 participants in the field of an ÖGK State Office, so we have to switch to external buildings,” is explained. “All managers were from the first to the third level”. From 18 to 20 May 2026, Ögk bosses will restore autumn.
The dispute of the debate still delayed
At least one company car debate, the Ögk bosses are saved-in contrast to the governors. The purchase of 20 new electric BMW service, which was already planned in the fall despite poor financial predictions, was rejected “with a view to the financial situation” …
