After failing to appear several times, former ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid – if necessary with “compulsion” – is nominated to the corruption investigation committee of the ÖVP. The groups want to decide on a corresponding application in the U-committee on Thursday. To date, Schmid has been invited three times, but has not appeared.
Several delivery attempts have failed recently. Schmid’s primary residence is now in the Netherlands. Even a summons in the form of administrative assistance via the Austrian embassy in The Hague, the embassy’s lawyer and a Dutch bailiff was initially unsuccessful.
“Compulsion as far as necessary”
In the request for a demonstration, the authorities are instructed to present the ex-ÖBAG boss to the ÖVP’s Corruption Investigation Commission for questioning on September 6 or as early as possible by the responsible security agency – the police. “For the purpose of the demonstration, the security authorities have the right to use coercion to the extent necessary and reasonable,” it said. Unless there is a milder way, Schmid must be stopped by the responsible safety authority.
The application is aimed at Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) as the highest security authority. In addition, the Ministry of Justice, WKStA, the Public Prosecution Service of Vienna and the municipal council of the federal capital are also informed.
