Álava’s deputy general is calling for a balance between sacrifice and profit in the factory, in order to generate a “clear scenario” that will help materialize the investment of the multinational Mercedes Benz in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The 1,200 million euro investment by Mercedes Benz in Vitoria-Gasteiz “could put the entire Basque car industry in a very good and competitive position for the future”. This is insured Ramiro Gonzalezdeputy general of Álava, in the interview held this morning on the Boulevard de Radio Euskadicwho has pointed out that the companies that regenerate and adapt to the new forms of production will continue, “while those that do not will be sentenced to death”.
Precisely because of the size of the investment and what it would entail, he hopes the “important and positive” agreement reached between the company and a union majority will also gain the support of the majority of workers and workers next Monday.
“I’m not going to tell them what to vote for, but an agreement is a guarantee for that investment and it’s a guarantee for the future,” he noted, pointing out that if it doesn’t go through, “the future is enormously uncertain for the factory and the whole industrial fabric”.
He stressed that “Mercedes Vitoria is very well positioned today, as it has performed very well so far and achieved great competitiveness”, pointing out the need to continue on this path.
The deputy general recalled that this investment “is good not only for the factory, but for the whole automotive sector”, as it would provide an opportunity to invest in R&D&I, in the automotive industry and a whole fleet of suppliers around the factory generate, with many people, “which could be many more in the future”, after possible extensions.
When asked about one of the major stumbling blocks of agreement, the salary increase according to the CPIGonzález has argued for the search for balance. He admits that every business is a world and is in a different situation, although he is clear that “The effort cannot only be demanded of the workers, the companies must also make the sacrificeprobably giving up some of their profits.
He pointed out that “it cannot happen that the employees give up a salary increase and the company continues to enjoy the same benefits, just as it cannot happen that the company stops receiving benefits or even suffers losses because the employees increase according to the CPI”.
