These figures speak volumes: every fourth migrant breaks down the orientation course. In 2024, more than 2,800 of a total of 11,574 participants skipped the course. In 2023 it was in 2088 of 10,925 – that is every fifth. This shows how urgent sanctions are, said Minister Claudia Plakolm, the responsible minister.
The integration department is currently to create the basis for a stricter procedure with the integration program. With the introduction of the mandatory integration program, sanctions when non-participation is introduced. Performance treatments such as pocket money or social benefits and administrative fines are planned.
“Everyone who lives with us must become part. If you do not do this, you must expect sanctions. We are of course also committed to the new integration program from day 1. Of course, sanctions also increase the liability of the course participants, because every empty space costs money,” Plakolm said.
