31 mandates are empty in the lower Austria since the municipal elections last January. Why?
A surprising photo emerged after the municipal elections in January 2025: 30 mandates reached by Spö and FPö cannot be fulfilled by the parties. A seat of a citizen list in the Neunkirchen district also remained empty.
Considered as parties from your own success
In the first instance a nuisance. It must be assumed that the citizens expect that the city council will continue to work at the local level and that important decisions can be made. This also includes not only the preservation of mandates in elections, but actually exercising in the local council. Because working in the city council is not an annoying leisure activity, but rather the most direct form to work in your own community. But in some communities the political groups were too successful, had too few candidates on their lists.
24 communities are affected
In particular, there are 24 local parties that cannot occupy all mandates in the city council. The freedom, which must leave 18 of the mandates to which they are entitled in 15 municipalities. A total of twelve of the mandates cannot be exercised in eight communities in the Spö. In Schrattenbach in the Neunkirchen district there was also a citizen list for elections that cannot occupy a mandate. It is not possible to fill, so these seats remain empty until the next municipal elections.
Response from the FPö: “We have grown from 484 to around 1300 mandates – that is, we could almost triple the number of mandate. And that was the case until the end of the period.”
