The cornerstones of the 2024 budget for the Tyrolean capital have been laid. There is a gloomy forecast in terms of debt levels. In December, the city council has a say in determining the cost schedule.
If it is up to the green mayor of Innsbruck, Georg Willi, the main points for the city budget for the coming year have been determined. Of course, the city council still has a say, which must be decided at the meeting of 14 and 15 December.
He presented it on Thursday together with financial director Martin Rupprechter. “The funding estimate currently provides for 522.7 million euros in income and 518.6 million euros in benefits,” the director calculates.
Debt level rises significantly
Payment drivers are likely to be personnel costs, provisioning operation (money invested to cover ex-civil servants’ retirement costs), health insurance, minimum income, inflation-driven purchase prices, and disposal coverage for the IVB, ISD, and OSVI. Most of the investments in 2024 should go to schools, kindergartens, crèches and the necessary urban infrastructure.
The debt ratio will rise to 160 million this year and the forecast for 2024 points to an increase to more than 180 million euros.
